GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF DUTIES:
Under limited direction, the purpose of the position is to operate a multi-line phone system for the Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA) Hospital located in Lexington, Kentucky. Performs related duties as required. Tasks are sedentary in nature (sitting for more than 80% of time) and involve the ability to exert very light physical effort - typically only very occasionally involving some combination of stooping, kneeling and crouching, and which may involve some lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of light weight (less than 5 pounds). Requires the ability to perform repetitive simple hand and arm movements in the operation of a computer keyboard and telephone. Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds and possess color vision and color discrimination and oral communication ability. Tasks are regularly performed in a covered and controlled environment with little exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as humidity, dirt, dust, pollen, or odors and occasional temperature and/or noise extremes.

TRAINING AND/OR EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Sufficient education to read and follow written and oral (English) instructions. Must be able to follow a schedule and be flexible when needed. Successful applicant will have excellent customer service skills, a pleasant voice and the ability multi-task and will be placed in six (6) to eight (8) week training course culminating in a skills and knowledge test. Minimum of one (1) year of experience preferred. Applicants will be subject to E-verify processing, drug testing and background check(s) as appropriate for positions. RLCB is a drug-free workplace.

EVALUATION OF EMPLOYEES CONSIDERS:
Has general knowledge of software and hardware used in performing switchboard services for DVA Hospital. Clearly understands the work hazards and safety issues in the use of electrical components. Is able to use common sense in detecting malfunctions in equipment. Is able to understand and follow oral and written (English) instructions. Is able to make and maintain effective working team relationships as needed for work assignments.
