Migel Medal Awards

The AFB Migel Medal—the highest honor in the blindness field—was established in 1937 by the late M.C. Migel, the first chairperson of AFB, to honor professionals and volunteers whose dedication and achievements have improved the lives of people who are blind or visually impaired.

The 2009 Migel Medal Professional Award recipient was Dr. Susan J. Spungin, Vice President, International Programs and Special Projects, AFB.

In addition, Senator Tom Harkin and Rep. Edward Markey each received the Migel Medal for their pioneering work on behalf of the rights of people with disabilities.
