The Stonewall Transition Conference

June 16th and 17th 2005 brought together over a hundred hard working, enthusiastic people all on a similar mission. The quest? To learn more about the particular issues faced by blind, visually impaired or deaf-blind students and youth in transition throughout the various stages of life. Just what are those issues and what can you as a professional or parent do to help your student or child embrace these challenges?
We welcome you to enjoy and learn from the collection of materials we've accumulated from this one-of-a-kind conference (the next best thing to having been there!) You are invited to read the PowerPoint presentations used in each informative session and graciously provided by the experts who presented; and then, if you like, you may e-mail them with your comments and questions.
You are also invited to "drop by" other gatherings such as the Lunch 'n Learn session, the AFB CareerConnect Mentor Appreciation Award presentation, and the Wine & Cheese Reception where the attendees got to know one another and network. STC attendees had the opportunity to hear nationally recognized experts describe the issues blind and visually impaired youth and the professionals working with them face during the various stages of transition from childhood to adult life. Viewing each presenter's PowerPoint will enable you to see what the presenter focused on as she shared her experience, advice and expertise for gathering new information, and shared fresh ideas for helping children succeed in life. In addition to the PowerPoint presentations, we have provided short biographies for each presenter. Remember that after reading through the materials, you have an opportunity to ask questions or make comments by using the direct email link provided.
