Scott Truax joined AFB in April 2005 as program manager for CareerConnect®, an AFB web site that offers free resources and tools for students and job seekers with vision loss as well as the professionals who work with them, their families, and potential employers. In addition, Truax was a key member of the cross-organizational team that developed FamilyConnect.org, and he lectures and consults on a wide range of issues related to employment and children with visual impairments.
Since 1975, Truax has worked in a wide variety of settings, including adult rehabilitation centers, schools for the blind, itinerant regional programs, Lighthouse for the Blind, vocational rehabilitation, and as a counselor to families of children who are visually impaired. Prior to joining AFB, Scott worked for the Washington State Department of Services for the Blind, where he was a Service Delivery Coordinator and Child and Family Consultant. He also worked as a Vocational Rehabilitation Counselor and Orientation and Mobility Instructor for various organizations in Washington and Texas. Truax has also served on several state councils. In 1989, he was appointed by the Governor to be the first Chair of the Washington State Interagency Coordinating Council for Infants & Toddlers, where he served until 2005. In addition, he was a member of the Washington State Low Vision Task Force from 1997 to 2003, and has been on the State Interagency Coordinating Council Data Committee since 1998.
Truax received a B.S. in Visual Disabilities, Orientation and Mobility Education, from Florida State University in 1974, and his M.Ed. in Special Education, Multi-Handicapped, from the University of Texas in 1977.
