AFB and Verizon National Campaign for Literacy, Textbooks, Transcribers and TechnologyThe American Foundation for the Blind (AFB), Northwest Vista College and its partners have pioneered a new college curriculum in America—Braille Textbook Transcriber. Professionally trained to transcribe and produce books and other written materials in braille, Braille Textbook Transcribers meet a critical and growing need. Students who are blind or have vision loss currently wait months for brailled materials, sometimes to never receive them at all, significantly hindering their progress in school. Braille Textbook Transcribers offer these students access to an education equal to that of their sighted peers by providing them the books and materials they need in a timely manner. This rewarding career is flexible, and can be practiced virtually anywhere there is Internet access. The coursework is completed in an online environment, so anyone, anywhere can pursue this new and exciting educational opportunity. Embark on a rewarding lifelong career and in turn, help the thousands of students who are blind or have vision loss achieve their dreams through education.
