On October 3, 2002, the American Foundation for the Blind, Verizon Communications, and legendary blind athlete Erik Weihenmayer gathered for a special event introducing a new career—Braille Textbook Transcriber—that will change the lives of America's blind and visually impaired schoolchildren. This Washington, D.C., event celebrated the official launch of the National Campaign for Literacy, Textbooks, Transcribers and Technology.
