Rehabilitation Service Providers

Rehabilitation professionals and specialized teachers work with visually impaired people (those who are blind or have low vision) throughout their lives. This section of the AFB web site provides resources for the professionals who work with visually impaired people preparing for or engaged in employment.

You will find this section helpful if you are

  • a teacher or transition specialist who assists visually impaired students in school
  • a rehabilitation teacher or vision rehabilitation therapist specializes in daily living skills, and special reading and writing techniques who works primarily with adults
  • An orientation and mobility specialist who teaches orientation to the outdoor environment and cane travel
  • a social worker or mental health specialist who helps visually impaired people learn to cope with the stresses of life with impaired vision at all ages
  • an assistive technology specialist
  • a rehabilitation engineer
  • a rehabilitation counselor
  • a job placement specialist or job coach who assists youths and adults to prepare for, obtain, and retain employment
