Focus on Judy Scott, Director, AFB Center on Vision Loss
Areas of Expertise:
Judy Scott has been actively involved in the field of aging and vision loss for over 30 years. At AFB, she spearheads the program development and capital campaign to establish AFB's Center on Vision Loss in Dallas, TX. She guides the development, expansion, and preservation of quality services for older people who are blind or visually impaired. Scott has also been a leader in developing the National Agenda on Aging and Vision Loss, a coalition dedicated to shaping public policies and attitudes that impact individuals aged 55 and older who are blind or have low vision. In that capacity, she worked closely with other leaders and drove the national advocacy effort to increase federal funds for independent living programs for older persons who are blind. Scott also provides information and referrals to older individuals who are visually impaired, their family members and caregivers, aging and vision loss professionals, and the medical community. Scott's community involvement ranges from being a Leadership Dallas member to serving as chair of the Dallas Eye Services Consortium to being appointed to the Texas Governor's Committee on People with Disabilities. In 1974, while with the Texas Commission for the Blind, Scott helped develop the proposal to establish the first independent living program for older visually impaired persons in Texas. This program, which she directed, served as the model for a national program. Scott is also a member of several organizations for blindness, aging, and rehabilitation. Scott holds an M.S. in Counseling and Guidance/Aging and a B.S. in Psychology and Sociology from East Texas State University. Related Events |
