For Professionals

Rehabilitation professionals and teachers with specialized training work with visually impaired people (those who are blind or have low vision) throughout their lives. This section of CareerConnect provides resources for the professionals who work with visually impaired people preparing for or engaged in employment.

You will find this section helpful if you are

  • a teacher or transition specialist who assists visually impaired students in school
  • a rehabilitation professional with specialized training in orientation and mobility, daily living skills, and special reading and writing techniques who works primarily with adults
  • a rehabilitation engineer
  • a rehabilitation counselor
  • a social worker or mental health specialist who helps visually impaired people learn to cope with the stresses of life with impaired vision at all ages
  • an assistive technology specialist
  • a job placement specialist or job coach who assists youths and adults to prepare for, obtain, and retain employment
