The American Foundation for the Blind and AT&T are pleased to be providing a great opportunity to receive continuing education units approved by the Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation and Education Professionals (ACVREP) or The Commission on Rehabilitation Counselor Certification (CRCC) by watching webinars that can be accessed through your work or home computers. Due to popular demand, we have archived these streaming webcasts and they are still available for viewing and for continuing education units.

Session 1: What's Next...Postsecondary Training Preparation for Students with Visual Impairments

Length: 90 minutes

Dr. Karen Wolffe, Career Counseling & Consultation, will discuss the available resources and critical skills that young adults with visual impairments need to acquire before graduation from high school to be successful in postsecondary training programs. Karen Wolffe is joined in the final segment by Scott Truax (CareerConnect Program Manager) for a discussion of self-advocacy and experiences during college preparation programs.

Session 2: Technology and Visual Impairment in Higher Education

Ike Presley, Project Manager, Professional Development, will discuss current trends in technology and implications for both high school and postsecondary training. Tips for the transition into postsecondary education will highlight technological solutions for everything from lectures to labs. Joe Strechay (AFB CareerConnect Associate) will join Ike to share their personal experiences and advice from college and graduate school.

Ike Presley, Project Manager, Professional Development, will show attendees how to create a "toolbox" for success by presenting the tools needed to access and create printed and electronic information. This session will also feature professionals with visual disabilities discussing the career planning techniques and assistive technologies that have helped them compete in the workplace and advance their careers.
