JVIB Partners

The Journal of Visual Impairment & Blindness (JVIB) maintains special partnerships with several blindness organizations in the United States and abroad, and it is the official scholarly research journal of the Association for Education and Rehabilitation of the Blind and Visually Impaired (AER). If your organization is interested in partnering with JVIB, please contact us at JVIB@afb.net.

Association for Education and Rehabilitation of the Blind and Visually Impaired (AER)

The Association for Education and Rehabilitation of the Blind and Visually Impaired (AER), the leading professional association for educators and rehabilitation practitioners who work with individuals who are blind or have low vision in the United States and Canada, named JVIB as its official scholarly research journal in 2013. AER members log in to a JVIB portal on the AER website for seamless access to all JVIB issues published online and the journal's CE program. To learn more information about this partnership, please read the FAQs for AER members.

Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation and Education Professionals (ACVREP)

The Academy for Certification of Vision Rehabilitation and Education Professionals (ACVREP) joined forces with JVIB in 2004 to provide continuing education opportunities for professionals in the field of visual impairment who are seeking recertification in the following areas:

  • Certified Assistive Technology Specialist (CATIS)
  • Certified Low Vision Therapist (CLVT)
  • Certified Orientation and Mobility Specialist (COMS)
  • Certified Vision Rehabilitation Therapist (CVRT)

Each issue of JVIB offers individuals the chance to earn ACVREP-approved continuing education hours (CEs) by reading JVIB articles and completing quizzes. Go to the View All CEs page to see the latest CE opportunities. To learn more about the JVIB CE program, read the ACVREP CEs FAQs.

Organización Nacional de Ciegos Españoles (ONCE)

Recognizing the importance and relevance of the scholarship published in JVIB, the Organización Nacional de Ciegos Españoles [National Organization of Spanish People Who Are Blind] (ONCE), a nonprofit organization that works to improve the quality of life of people with blindness or severe visual impairment across Spain, has partnered with JVIB since 2005 to provide Spanish translations of current JVIB articles to its members through its password-protected intranet site.

Perkins Professional Development

Perkins Professional Development, a division of the Perkins School for the Blind, has partnered with JVIB since 2014 to provide seamless access to specific JVIB articles for students of its web-based educational courses and workshops. Perkins eLearning offers a variety of credits, depending on the activity, through its eLearning platform, including continuing education credits (CEUs), professional development points (PDPs), ACVREP credits, graduate credit, and American Speech-Language Hearing Association (ASHA) credits.
