the American Foundation for the Blind


Our Mission Is

To help commercial, government, and nongovernment organizations maximize the accessibility and usability of their products, services, web sites, and intranets for people with disabilities.

We Accomplish This By

Using highly skilled, experienced experts, many of whom have disabilities themselves, to perform evaluations, develop recommendations, conduct research, and advise our clients on accessibility and usability matters.

Our Services

  • Specific product/service evaluations from design through launch
  • Section 508 compliance, including preparation and testing of voluntary product accessibility templates (VPATs) for vendors, and VPAT validation for government buyers
  • Web site evaluations for W3C/WAI and Section 508 standards compliance
  • Market research to support incorporating the needs of people with disabilities into product planning
  • Accessibility partnerships for providing ongoing advice and strategic support
  • Accessible media and alternate format production through AFB's Talking Book Productions
