RSS stands for "really simple syndication." It's a relatively new way for you to monitor your favorite blogs or news sites and make sure that you are alerted whenever new content or articles appear.

To use RSS, you will need to choose an RSS reader (also referred to as a feed reader or "aggregator"). This tool will check the various web sites you have selected and provide you with links to the new documents, along with snippets of the articles. Feed readers are an easy way to see which of your favorite web sites have been updated recently, and how many new articles are available. Read AFB's evaluation of several popular feed readers and find out how accessible they are.

Below, you will find links to sign up to get alerts whenever a new post appears on AFB's blog. If you already have a newsreader, or feed reader, you may find a specific link for that service below. Otherwise, you can use the general "RSS" link—copy the target of the link, and paste it into your feed reader's "Subscribe" form, where it asks you for the "Blog or Feed URL."

For novice bloggers with vision loss, AFB recommends downloading the Bloglines' Notifier (a feed reader), which allows blind users to organize RSS subscriptions with ease. Visit our Blog Jargon section to learn the meanings of RSS, podcasting, blogging, feed readers, and more.
