When Manjiro and some friends are shipwrecked on a small island, they are rescued by a whaling ship from the United States. Manjiro becomes a successful ship captain, but he misses his family. Will he ever be able to go home again? Helen Keller visited Japan three times, in 1937, 1948, and 1955. She brought the first akita dog to the United States, a Japanese breed. She also visited Hawaii, mentioned in this book, well before it became a state. | |
