Jean was born in China where her parents work, but she dreams of living in the United States on her grandmother's farm. When life gets difficult for foreigners living in China during the 1920s, Jean's family gets ready to move "home." But will living in the United States be as perfect as Jean imagines it will be? Homesick is based on the author's own life, and combines humor, sadness, and excitement in an unforgettable tale.
Helen Keller visited China twice, once to Manchuria in 1937 (a section of northeastern China), and then to Hong Kong in 1955 (which at that time belonged to England).
