Welcome to AFB CareerConnect®—a free resource for people who want to learn about the range and diversity of jobs performed by adults who are blind or visually impaired throughout the United States and Canada. Whether you are a student exploring careers, a job seeker investigating work options, an employer planning to diversify your workforce, a professional working with visually impaired people; or, a friend or family member assisting someone who is blind or has low vision, this web site can help you!

You may want to:

  • Watch videos that feature CareerConnect mentors demonstrating assistive technology in office settings for employees who are blind or have low vision. These videos are designed to show potential employers how employees with vision loss can get the job done!

  • Take advantage of our newest resource, CareerConnect Multimedia. By popular request we have developed learning tools for all audiences using graphics, audio and video clips.

  • Listen to 8 new audio interviews of individuals with vision loss conducted by teens from the state of Washington. The careers discussed include restaurant owner, CEO, teacher, physical therapist, receptionist and more.

  • Match your skills and experience to jobs at one of the 80-plus associated agencies of National Industries for the Blind (NIB) across the United States. CareerConnect has teamed up with NIB to initiate NIB CareerNet, an easy-to-use web resource designed to match job seekers with jobs.

  • Log in to My CareerConnect where you can develop a Personal Data Sheet and build a resume, keep up with your appointments using an electronic calendar, and more.

  • If you are not a registered user, consider becoming one—it's free and easy! Register for free as a My CareerConnect User.

  • Explore Careers — general information about the United States Labor market in a completely accessible format will help you determine which jobs are hot and which are not!

  • Search for a Mentor — their careers range from fitness trainer to voice-over actress.

  • Read Success Stories — find many first-hand accounts from CareerConnect mentors of working with low or no vision. Just posted: Freelance Success: Writing in the Dark

  • Read Just for Fun! articles — CareerConnect showcases mentors who enjoy their leisure and recreational time as much as they do their work.

  • Become a CareerConnect Mentor — if you are a successfully employed blind or visually impaired person and would like to share your experiences with others, please consider becoming a CareerConnect Mentor—it's easy and worthwhile!
