INDEPENDENT LIVING SKILLS TRAINER

JOB SUMMARY:
• An ILS Trainer performs case management and advance social worker related to training the elderly that are visually impaired.
• Teach adaptive living skills for household management, personal care & communication skills.
• Trains elderly with visual impairment to maintain independence in their homes.

JOB FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Conduct daily home visits to assess if the visually impaired senior needs our help.
• Provide training to elderly people with visual impairment to assist in maintaining their independence in their homes and community.
• Train seniors in adaptive living skills such as cooking, cleaning, labeling clothes, laundry, labeling groceries, grocery shopping (or learning to utilize store customer service personnel), medication maintenance, dealing with mail and correspondence
• Daily travel throughout San Antonio and surrounding counties to conduct in home training.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Bachelors Degree from an accredited college or university in the field of rehabilitation, education, psychology, sociology, or related field
• Must be bilingual (English/Spanish required)
• Experience conducting home visits and working with aging population
• Must be able to coordinate and manage case load and home visit scheduling independently
• Drivers License with safe driving record. Reliable transportation – personal car (60% travel required)
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including ability to work and communicate with individuals with visual impairment and disabilities.
• Demonstrate skills in providing independent living skills training, preferably with experience in “hands-on” individual training to persons who are elderly or who have visual disabilities and/or other disabilities.

TRAINING:
• Independent Living skills
• Self-esteem and adjusting to blindness
• CPR/1st Aid certification
• Low Vision Services
• Adaptive Low Vision Aids

TRAVEL: Approximately -60- percent.

SALARY: $30-$35k annual Commensurate with experience.
