Louisiana Association for the Blind (L.A.B.) seeks candidates for the position of Vice President, Strategic Development. The successful candidate will be a boldly forward-thinking individual who will build upon existing business and strengthen systems to further L.A.B.’s mission to improve the quality of life for people who are blind by providing training, services, and employment.

Overview: The Vice President, Strategic Development (VPSD), is a member of the L.A.B. Executive Team, reporting directly to the President and CEO. The VPSD is the team leader in the development and execution of the strategic business development plan for the organization, and is willing and able to make high-quality, high-velocity decisions. Utilizing strong research and analytical skills, the VPSD identifies emerging gaps, trends, and opportunities in the AbilityOne Program, federal government (including contractors), and commercial marketplaces.

Include, but are not limited to, the following:

1. Strategic Planning and Marketing
A. Plans, oversees and operationalizes achievement of L.A.B.’s mission through capture of select opportunities in key markets within the AbilityOne Program, federal/state government, and commercial ventures
B. Facilitates understanding of program and financial risks in developing new business
C. Develops and maintains strategic relationships that contribute to the overall visibility, credibility, and growth of the organization

2. Business Development and Revenue Generation
A. Tracks, identifies, and pursues opportunities, maintaining a pipeline for current and emerging opportunities
B. Manages strategic bids by closely monitoring opportunities via federal, state, local, and commercial bid processes, including development and submission of proposals
C. Keeps abreast of trends in the commercial/industrial business and federal/state government sectors

3. Resource Planning and Management
A. Plans, manages, coordinates, strengthens, and institutionalizes business development operations
B. Leads, promotes, and provides quality control oversight in all business development functions and operations
C. Trains, coaches, and mentors in strategic planning, marketing, and business development functions
D. Works with executive management team to ensure optimal interdepartmental communications and maximize organization’s success and sustainability

4. Knowledge Management
A. Analyzes new business lessons learned to integrate learning to strengthen efforts
B. Manages comprehensive strategic marketing function
C. Maintains the organization’s business development and bid templates and materials, including bid and business development databases
D. Oversees business development and marketing reports; tracks win/loss record

Preferred Qualifications and Educational Requirements
1. Minimum of bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, or related field; master’s preferred
2. Minimum seven years of experience and demonstrated track record in
A. marketing and business development with AbilityOne Program, federal government, federal contractors, and/or commercial/industrial sectors
B. strategic business planning and execution
C. overseeing business development as evidenced by contributions to sustained organization revenue and growth
3. Strong leadership, interpersonal, entrepreneurial, and writing skills required
4. PMI project/program management certification(s) is(are) a plus
5. Frequent overnight travel required (up to 35%)
6. If sighted, current driver’s license and insurance required
