Outreach clinics throughout the state of WV are available. Please contact the center for more information and areas served.

Hours of operation: Mon.-Fri. 8:00 AM-5:00 PM.

Staff description: Ophthalmologists, low vision optometrist, social workers, occupational therapists, and certified ophthalmic technicians.
Geographic area served: Unlimited, we provide services primarily to the people of Appalachia; however, we see patients from across the United States and Canada

Services Offered

Services for Adults

  • Assessment
    • Provides comprehensive low vision examinations and rehabilitation. Devices and rehabilitation strategies are provided
  • Audiodescription
    • Provides audiodescription services.
  • Information and Referral
    • Referrs to state and local agencies for the blind and visually impaired for both the elderly and vocational rehabilitation. Funding of low vision devices is also sought.
  • Low Vision Services
    • Provides comprehensive low vision examinations and rehabilitation for all groups.

Services for Children

  • Assessment
    • Offers comprehensive low vision evaluation that details remaining, usable vision, optical devices assessment and training, lighting assessment, home modification recommendations, technology assessment and training, orientation and mobility training and electronic assessment and training.
  • Information and Referral
    • Refers to associated Children's Vision Rehabilitation Project for low vision services for school-aged children.
  • Low Vision Services
    • Provides comprehensive low vision examinations and rehabilitation for all groups.

Services for Professionals

  • Professional Training
    • Offers residency in ophthalmology and certification for ophthalmic technicians.
