Brief Description

AzEIP is a federally funded, statewide, interagency system of services provided under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Part C. Services are provided, generally at no cost to the family, to eligible children, birth to three years of age (under 3 yrs. old), and their families, residing in Arizona. A child might be eligible for AzEIP based on a screening, assessment, or evaluation determining that a delay or disability, meeting Arizona's eligibility criteria, exists.

Services for Children

  • Assessment
    • When a child is referred to AzEIP, a screening, assessment or evaluation is done at no cost to the family to establish a child's eligibility. Established conditions that have a high probability of developmental delay include, but are not limited to:
    • chromosomal abnormalities
    • metabolic disorders
    • significant auditory impairment
    • neural tube defects
    • intraventricular hemorrhage
    • grades 3 or 4 periventricular leukomalacia
    • cerebral palsy
    • hydrocephalus
    • significant visual impairment
    • failure to thrive, and
    • severe attachment disorders.
  • Early Intervention/Infant Services
    • Lead agency for Arizona's early intervention system as required by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). Assists in the development and implementation of a comprehensive and coordinated service delivery system for developmentally delayed infants and toddlers and their families.
