Brief Description

The Ethel and Samuel J. LeFrak School is the Lighthouse International's model program where preschoolers who are visually impaired learn side-by-side with their sighted peers. The curriculum is especially designed to use all the senses to provide an enriching environment for all the children. The school also provides home and school-based early intervention services for infants and toddlers who have developmental delays.

Services Offered

Services for Children

  • Early Intervention/Infant Services
    • Vision, special instruction and occupational/speech/physical therapy can begin in our home-based program for children from birth to three. Children can receive all services in one-on-one sessions with teachers and therapists who work together as an interdisciplinary team.

The center-based program at the Lighthouse provides small classes of up to 10 children, one teacher and two teacher assistants for children who reach age two. The group setting fosters socialization, cognition (thinking skills) and physical development.

  • Support for Parents
    • The New Lighthouse Parent Center offers extensive training, classes, workshops and fun events for all parents of the Ethel and Samuel J. LeFrak School students. The Center is run by a Parent Coordinator, with a high level of decision making by parents from the school's Parent Focus Group.
