Services for Adults

  • Employment/Job Training
    • Offers career and skill counseling transition services. Refers for some other employment services.
  • Travel/Orientation and Mobility
    • Provides orientation and mobility training.

Services for Children

  • Assessment
    • Provides social evaluations, psychological testing and evaluations, and access to Lions Clinic Assessment Center.
  • Braille and Reading Instruction
    • Provides instruction in braille, handwriting, keyboarding, typing.
  • Counseling
    • Offers individual counseling, transition services, placement in school, training. Refers for other counseling/social work services.
  • Daily Living Skills/Independent Living Skills Training
    • Provides instruction in personal management, braille, handwriting, listening skills, keyboard, typing, home management, remedial education, sensory motor training, pre-vocational and vocational work centers. Refers for rehabilitation teaching in client's home and community.
  • Early Intervention/Infant Services
    • The Early Intervention Program for Children who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing provides services to children who are deaf, hard of hearing, or deaf/blind ages birth to three and their families. Concentrating on language and communication skill development, itinerant professionals provide family-centered intervention in home and daycare settings. At age three, the program works to establish a smooth transition to the local education agency.
  • Education Services
    • The instructional program at the Governor Morehead School serves students from 5 to 21 years of age. Our curriculum comes from the North Carolina state standards and eligible students earn either a diploma or certificate at graduation. Our program focuses on both academics and functional instruction in order to meet the educational needs of students with varying cognitive abilities.
  • Health
    • Offers treatment of minor eye conditions, follow-up evaluation of eye treatment or prescription, general medical services, and speech, hearing, occupational and physical therapy. Refers for other health services.
  • Preschool Programs
    • The Governor Morehead Preschool Program helps children with visual impairments gain skills and self-confidence. Because it is critical to begin contact with these children as early in the process as possible, the Preschool Program serves visually impaired children from birth through age four.

      Operates 8 sites: Greensboro, Chapel Hill, Charlotte, Morganton, Fayetteville, Greenville, Raleigh, and Wilmington.
  • Recreation Services
    • Offers arts and crafts, hobby groups, leisure activities, fitness activities, residential summer camp, swimming, track, wrestling, cheerleading, goalball.
  • Summer/Day Camps and After-school Programs
    • Offers after-school programs and a residential summer camp.
