Services Offered

Services for Children

  • Assessment
    • Assesses any child, ages 3 to 21 years, if he or she is suspected of having a disability.
  • Community Outreach Programs
    • Attempts to identify blind or visually impaired K-12 age students in need of specific educational services.
  • Information and Referral
    • Provides information about education of blind or visually impaired students and refers to community resources.
  • Support for Parents
    • The Parent Resource Center has been established by Jefferson County Public Schools (JCPS) to help parents understand the special-education process. The Parent Resource Center staff can help parents work in partnership with their child’s school.

      Provides parents with information about the special-education process and the programs available.
  • Travel/Orientation and Mobility
    • Provides orientation and mobility training.

Services for Professionals

  • Professional Training
    • Offers in-service training for teachers of blind or visually impaired children.
