Brief Description

Transportation is provided by the local school districts.

Hours of operation: Mon.-Fri. 8:00 AM-4:00 PM. In the home-based programs, the hours are flexible to meet the needs of the families
Geographic area served: Mainly Pennsylvania but some New Jersey residents attend.
Publications: TOWERS Newsletter, Publications through TOWERS Press include Braille Literacy Curriculum and Technology for All: Assistive Technology in the Classroom

Services Offered

Services for Children

  • Braille and Reading Instruction
    • Offers braille literacy programs to students from preschool through 12th grade.
  • Community Outreach Programs
    • Early Intervention Outreach Program is a home-based program for the families of children ages birth to three years, who are visually impaired and who may have additional disabilities. The focus of the program is to give support and education to families to help their child.
  • Computer Training/Assistive Technology
    • All students are provided with access technology and assistive technology devices. Students are evaluated and specific learning goals selected for inclusion in their IEP. Overbrook has received several award for the technology program.
  • Daily Living Skills/Independent Living Skills Training
    • Provides instruction in skills of daily living.
  • Early Intervention/Infant Services
    • The early intervention programs provide services to children birth to five and their families throughout Philadelphia and surrounding counties.
  • Education Services
    • Offers specialized programs for students with visual impairments, from preschool through 12th grade.
  • Employment/Job Training
    • School to Work Program for students who are age 19 to 21 prepares them to lead productive and satisfying adult lives to the best of their abilities upon graduation from Overbrook. This may be in various settings such as: A Day Program, Supported Work Program, or even Competitive Employment. This program currently serves 20 students who are visually impaired, and/or multi-handicapped.

      The Work Experience Program (WEP) also known as TECH (Training, Employment, Careers, Habilitation) prepares students through classroom lessons and vocational experiences at school and area businesses for the adult work world they will enter after graduation. WEP serves students age seven through 21 who are blind or visually impaired and who may have other disabilities as well.
  • Preschool Programs
    • Has a preschool program for blind or visually impaired children ages 3-5.
  • Recreation Services
    • Offers recreational activities including clubs, hiking, swimming, goal ball, wrestling.
  • Support for Parents
    • Has parent support groups.
  • Travel/Orientation and Mobility
    • Provides orientation and mobility training.

Services for Professionals

  • Professional Training
    • Provides in-service training for teachers and teacher aides and staff members.
