Services for Adults

  • Business/Personal Services
    • Offers chore services for seniors.
  • Counseling
    • Provides casework and referral services. Offers training in blindness skills to supplement the education of mainstreamed children.
  • Daily Living Skills/Independent Living Skills Training
    • Provides training in personal management and home management skills.
  • Information and Referral
    • Serves as the primary source of information and referrals regarding blindness and visual impairment in area.
  • Low Vision Services
    • Provides low vision evaluation and follow-up. Prescribes and supplies low vision devices.
  • Reading Services
    • Reading from the Erie Times News available by dialing (814)459-2999.
  • Recreation Services
    • Offers social group for elderly blind persons.
  • Support Groups
    • Has a support group for seniors.
  • Transportation Services
    • Provides transportation services for seniors.
  • Travel/Orientation and Mobility
    • Provides orientation and mobility training.

Services for Children

  • Assessment
    • At The Sight Center, children aged 1 through 6 are tested using our state-of-the-art, non-invasive PediaVision and other tests.
  • Braille and Reading Instruction
    • Offers braille instruction.
  • Community Outreach Programs
    • Traveling vision screeners visit most of the area pre-schools, day-cares and Headstart programs throughout the year.
  • Computer Training/Assistive Technology
    • Offerstraining in the use of adaptive computers.
  • Daily Living Skills/Independent Living Skills Training
    • Children’s Experience Program at the sight Center supplements the school curriculum by teaching visually impaired kids certain skills of daily living.
  • Health
    • Offers regional preschool and elementary vision screenings.
  • Summer/Day Camps and After-school Programs
    • Provides after-school and summer programs to assist parents of children with visual impairment. Summer Experience Program provides activities that broaden kids’ exposure to their community, foster independence and enhance self-esteem. Past activities include visits to the Living Treasures Zoo, fishing with the Sons of Lake Erie, a kite flying picnic at Presque Isle, craft activities and a ride aboard the Titusville/Oilcreek Railroad.

Services for Professionals

  • Consultation/Technical Program Assistance
    • Provides in-service training to staffs of organizations that have a significant visually impaired population.
