Brief Description

The Instructional Resource Center manages the distribution of braille and large print state adopted textbooks for all students in the state who are blind or visually impaired.

The Instructional Resource Center is managed by the SC School for the Deaf and Blind in partnership with the SC Department of Education Office of Exceptional Children. Our Braille Production Center transcribers are certified in Literary Braille by the U.S. Library of Congress. Additional certifications include Textbook Formatting, Nemeth Code, Proofreading, and UEB.

Hours of operation: 8:30am to 4:30pm M-F

Number of staff: 4 in IRC, 23 in Braille Production Center
Staff description: Program Manager, Program Assistant, Media Specialist, Inventory Specialist. Braille Production Center has a Manager, Program Assistant, and braille transcribers.
