Brief Description

We are a 501 (c) 3 tax exempt non-profit service organization. The VIS group works with city, county, and state leaders, as well as local business leaders, to improve the lives of the blind and visually impaired in Cumberland County, TN. Although the VIS group is located in Cumberland County, our services are not limited to Cumberland County. The VIS Group is the only support group in a 14 county radius. The Visually Impaired Support Group of Cumberland County, TN and its members are affiliated with the American Council of the Blind, Tennessee Council of the Blind, and the Crossville Chamber of Commerce. We are a participating partner of the United Fund of Cumberland County, TN.

Services Offered

Services for Adults

  • Assistive Products
    • Our support group has an Equipment On-Loan program, whereby we purchase low-vision devices, such as; desktop electronic video magnifiers, handheld & digital magnifiers, lighting, computer software, keyboards, etc. for our members use. They must sign an on-loan agreement and remain a member in good standing to continue to borrow the product(s).
  • Community Outreach Programs
    • The Community EVM (Electronic Video Magnifiers) Program places desktop large-screen video magnifiers in public areas, such as; libraries, senior centers, senior housing, and other public locations for use by area residents. This program gives the opportunity for a larger populace to enjoy costly low-vision equipment.
  • Support Groups
    • Support meetings are held on the 2nd Thursday of each month (Sept. - June) from 9:30am - 11:30am at the Sonshine Soup Kitchen, 69 Neecham St, Crossville 38555, which includes a speaker or program. Socialization, Coffee/Tea & Pastry are always provided.
