Brief Description

The Vision Rehabilitation Clinic is a direct service component of the Department of Blindness and Low Vision Studies at Western Michigan University.

The clinic evaluates remaining vision, prescribes appropriate low vision aids, and provides training in their use.

Hours of operation: Mon.-Fri. 8:00 AM-5:00 PM.
Staff description: Optometrist, low vision therapist, O&M instructor, rehabilitation teacher, rehabilitation counselor, audiologist.

Services for Adults

  • Computer Training/Assistive Technology
    • Offers computer training nand training in the use of assistive technology.
  • Information and Referral
    • Offer adults who are blind or visually impaired information and resources they need to lead successful, productive, independent lives.
  • Low Vision Services
    • Provides low vision evaluation and follow-up. Prescribes and supplies low vision devices (video magnification systems from Optelec, Pulse Data, Magnasight, and Enhanced Vision Systems). Bioptic Driving
  • Services for Seniors
    • Provides low vision evaluation and follow-up. Prescribes and supplies low vision devices (video magnification systems from Optelec, Pulse Data, Magnasight, and Enhanced Vision Systems). Bioptic Driving for seniors. Medicare participant.

    • •A complete functional assessment and thorough eye exam is available for WMU benefits eligible patients and the general public. •Low vision optical aids are available on site •Training is available for vision loss compensatory skills and in the optimal use of optical aids
