Re:new cell phones

Yeah. All I did was use a vi's iphone and a braille display and it was super easy. It shouldn't be a problem.

Re:new cell phones

if you go to your local electronic store or the apple store you could get a chance to work with it and get answers to questions. that's what i did before i got it. They should have it and or the ipad or itouch out on display. they all have the same basic set up just you can call people on the phone.

Re:new cell phones

... if only I could have an i-phone to play with before actually buying one :/ Or maybe just wait for the android ...

Re:new cell phones

I just remebered if you want to hook a Braille display to it you go to general accessibility voice over and in the last three options there's an option that says Braille

If your still shakey about touch screen typing you could use the display instead

Re:new cell phones

Yea, I have the nokia e71x which I got 2 years ago. Most of the phones that work with mobile speak are like 2 years old and have been discontinued. When I called AT&T's disability support center (or whatever it's called) they only had 2 old phones and they told me they were waiting for the androids to finish testing. If they could only say when it'll be available :/

Re:new cell phones

I would love that kind of phone?

Re:new cell phones

I only know of two phones right off that works with Mobile Speaks at at&t. One is the Samsung Jack and the one is the NoKia 66 50. There's two more but I forgot them.

Re:new cell phones

hi guys :) so android phones are being tested for mobile speak and they said testing was almost done. They wouldn't say when it would be available :/ but I think I'm going to wait for that.

Re:new cell phones

That is so cool!

Re:new cell phones

All kinds there's an app for almost everything, unfortunately not all of them work with voice over . There's an app with an OCR on it there's a lot of apps for movies and music, apps that read stories , there's a app for Dragon Dictation software that is free. RFB&D has one but i haven't been able to get it to work and its not cheep. there's a skype app, dog training apps. apps that will give you free texting. With ibooks you can access best sellers that voice over will read through ibooks i have read Dracula, Frankenstein and the invisible man so far. Steven Kings IT and several others are for sale right now i just have the sample right now. Dictionary.com has an app. Pandora internet radio has an app. And theres new apps coming out all the time

Re:new cell phones

Must be nice. *jealous* What kind of appss does it have?

Re:new cell phones

its no problem i don't mind. I like answering your questions. To flick basically means you slide your fingers across the screen quickly in the direction you desire to "flick" it to change pages or scroll up and down.
As for the typing you basically do have to tap the letter twice. Once it says it you either double tap really fast or keep on finger on the letter and tap the screen with another. Unless its set up like my ipad some how decided to do lately. With it you just hold down your finger on it. But with my phone it is what i said before either double tap or hold one finger there and tap with the other. You could go to the app called notes to practice typing on it

Re:new cell phones

Ok so I played with my sister's I-phone today for a little bit (she wouldn't lend it for that long) and it seams ok when you get use to it. The only thing I don't understand is the typing. Do you have to press the letter twice for it to actually enter it? Also what do they mean when they say "flick your finger?" thanks and sorry for all the questions!

Re:new cell phones

That sounds awesome.

Re:new cell phones

i suppose
Which it is less complex when your actually working with it and once you get used to it its a lot of fun. At first i had a lot of trouble with voice over but now its more than second nature. you can turn on music just by tapping with two fingers. You can scroll by swiping three fingers across the screen in desired direction. it will read whatever your finger is over and to open the app you just either double tap or keep one finger there and tapping with another. The one thing that gave me problems when i discovered it for the first time was if you tap with 3 fingers twice it turns off the speech which is good for movies but its ruff if you are traveling the screen and it occurs for the first time. The good thing though is tapping twice with the 3 turns it back on.
It will read whatever your finger runs over and if all else fails and you aren't sure where you are you can just press the home key and you can get back to the main screen. Also voice over will tell you where the home key is when you switch from portrait to landscape. So even if you drop it or something you will always know where it is plus you can always find the home key since it is one of the only buttons on the phone

Re:new cell phones

... wow that still sounds really complicated compared to a keypad lol

Re:new cell phones

That's awesome!! How cool!!!!

Re:new cell phones

The way it works is you run your finger over the screen till it says the letter aloud then you either double tap the screen or keep your finger inthat spot and tap with another

Re:new cell phones

really? How do you do to type? I can't picture typing in a touch screen as easy! (it's sofia, I changed my username.)

Re:new cell phones

Voice over makes the iPhone easy I went from akey pad to touch screen in aday

Re:new cell phones

Hey Guys :) thanks for the feedback, I have to stick to AT&T because that is where my family has the data plan. Right now I have nokia with mobile speak and was wondering if anything new had come up. I've heard the IPhone is great but I'm still a little uncertain about it because it's touch screen.

Re:new cell phones

Wow that is so cool!!! Lucky you!

Re:new cell phones

Re:new cell phones

Hi! I know if you're on AT&T, the iPhone has mobile speak. But if you went to Verizon, they have a lot of phones with talking features.

Re:new cell phones

No, but I have a Sprint phone with Voiceover.
