Listening Session for the White House Conference on Aging

Join us in Phoenix for a listening session for the 2015 White House Conference on Aging. The White Conference on Aging occurs once every 10 years when the nation focuses on issues facing older people. White House conference leaders are encouraging groups to conduct listening sessions throughout the country, and AFB has decided to conduct a listening session as a part of the 2015 Leadership Conference. This session is your opportunity to provide feedback on issues related to aging and vision loss that concern you.

If you are interested in being a part of this unique opportunity, please e-mail Pris Rogers.

Learn About the Helen Keller Digital Archive

Did you know that Helen Keller was employed with AFB for over 40 years? As an icon and ambassador who championed the rights of those with vision loss, Keller made an incomparable impact on world history. Conference attendees will have a unique opportunity to learn about AFB's efforts to digitize the Helen Keller Archives. The collection, which features over 80,000 items bequeathed to AFB upon Keller's death in 1968, spans from the late 19th century to the 20th—from Alexander Graham Bell to John F. Kennedy.

Over the past several years, Helen Selsdon, AFB's archivist, has worked in conjunction with experts in the fields of digitization and library software to create a website that showcases the archive for both sighted and visually impaired audiences. Selsdon will present the digital archive and provide an overview of steps AFB has taken to make the site accessible for all.
