Thank you for reviewing the 2015 American Foundation for the Blind's Leadership Conference (AFBLC) Sponsorship and Marketing Proposal.

Our flagship conference seeks to improve the quality of programs and services to blind and visually impaired children and adults. AFBLC provides a forum in which leadership personnel, in both education and rehabilitation, have the opportunity to increase their awareness of student and client needs, expand their knowledge, refine leadership skills, and share concerns and strategies. Each year, the conference is held in a different location. Previous conferences have been held in New York City, Chicago, St. Pete Beach, and Seattle.

Who Attends?

The AFBLC attracts the leaders of the field—those who are the influencers, as well as the decision-makers for their organizations. When you meet with participants at AFBLC, you will be meeting with those who have the authority to make purchasing decisions for their organization, and the people who will evangelize your brand to the rest of the field. Conference attendees include technology experts, corporate representatives, university professors, teachers of students with visual impairments, orientation and mobility (O&M) instructors, rehabilitation professionals, and parents. They come from diverse organizations and institutions spanning the public and private sectors, including school districts, schools for the blind, Veterans Administration offices, hospitals, private agencies, and universities.

The 2014 AFBLC attracted over 440 attendees from 39 states and 8 countries.

"Facebook has chosen to be a repeat sponsor of the AFBLC because the American Foundation for the Blind has always been a strong supporter of our work and the AFBLC is a unique opportunity to connect with organizations, companies and leaders in the vision loss and accessibility space."

Jeff Wieland, Project Manager, Engineering, Facebook

Sessions and Events

AFBLC sessions are designed to meet the interests and educational needs of our diverse attendees. Sessions qualify for continuing education credits and cover employment, rehabilitation, technology, education, orientation & mobility, professional development, and leadership. Product demonstrations and opportunities to provide feedback on products and services are part of the attendee experience at AFBLC.

The 2014 conference featured presentations from leading tech companies, including Facebook, Panasonic, IBM, Yahoo! and Canon. A keynote conversation with Google's director of international engineering explored the tech company's latest research and development. And a discussion between AFB President Carl Augusto and J.W. "Bill" Marriott, Jr., executive chairman of Marriott International, on the topic of leadership and values, was a highlight of the conference.

"Sprint's participation in the American Foundation for the Blind Leadership Conference (AFBLC) has proven to be invaluable as we strive to better meet the needs of our customers who are blind or have vision loss. AFBLC provides a forum for industry leaders and influencers to share insights, best practices, and the latest trends and advancements in accessible technology. We look forward to another year of great learnings at the 2015 AFBLC."

Jennifer Crutchfield, Manager of Corporate Responsibility, Sprint

At each AFBLC, we present some of the most prestigious awards in the field. The Access Awards honor those who are eliminating or substantially reducing inequities faced by people who are blind or visually impaired. Past recipients include CBS, Apple, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art. The Migel Medal—the highest honor in the blindness field—recognizes professionals and volunteers whose dedication and achievements have improved the lives of people who are blind or visually impaired.

"HumanWare has participated in the last three AFB Leadership Conferences and found them to be a great opportunity to meet with many leaders in our field from throughout the country all in one place."

AFB will cover the costs of a continental breakfast or boxed lunch for up to 30 participants. The demo room allows companies to speak about and demonstrate products and services and survey attendees. Sessions in these rooms will appear in the program and will be promoted in emails to registrants prior to the conference. Sponsors must provide speaker title, abstract, and session topic (all presentations require AFB approval).

Logo placement, ads, and poster placement on site are deadline dependent. All materials must be received in a timely manner in order to fulfill these services. Similarly, please contact us by February 1, 2015, to reserve exhibit booth space.

The Journal of Visual Impairment & Blindness (JVIB) and AccessWorld® are AFB's online publications. JVIB is the international peer-reviewed journal of record in the field. AccessWorld is AFB's monthly technology magazine, which publishes product reviews of assistive and mainstream technologies.
