Expanding possibilities for people with vision loss

American Foundation for the Blind Welcomes Four New Trustees

New York,NY (August 5, 2008)—During the summer 2008 convening of its Board of Trustees, the American Foundation for the Blind (AFB) announced the election of four distinguished board members: Ray Fidler, Glatfelter Insurance Company; Dr. Parveen Jain, McAfee, Inc.; James H. McLaughlin, Convergent Wealth Advisors; and Stuart S. Piltch, Cambridge Advisory Group, Inc.

"I am very honored to welcome this accomplished group of professionals to AFB's board this year," said Carl R. Augusto, AFB President and CEO. "Their leadership and guidance will undoubtedly help AFB fulfill our mission to expand possibilities for people with vision loss."

O'Brien, Chair of AFB's Board of Trustees and Managing Director of Summit Asset Management. "Their expertise and diverse perspectives are sure to prove invaluable to AFB in the years to come."

Ray Fidler, General Counsel of Glatfelter Insurance Group, has been a leading lawyer and business practitioner in the insurance business for more than 20 years and has focused his practice on corporate governance, counseling boards of directors, offshore reinsurance, onshore wholesale insurance brokerage, creation and maintenance of marketing and distribution systems, and regulatory compliance. Throughout his career, Mr. Fidler has devoted himself to serving a number of community organizations, primarily social service organizations serving the interests of the blind. He has been a board member of York County Blind Center and National Industries for the Blind (NIB), and in 2006, was awarded the coveted R.B. Irwin Award by NIB. He is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Dickinson College and Honors graduate of The University of Maryland School of Law.

Dr. Parveen Jain is the Chairman of JovianData, Inc. Prior to this, he was the Executive Vice President of CorpDev, Strategy & BD at McAfee, Inc., where he earlier served as EVP of Worldwide Marketing, and President of Network Security BU. Before McAfee, Dr. Jain was founder and CEO of IntruVert Networks, acquired by McAfee in May 2003. Dr. Jain has received several awards, including the Hay Gold Medal for Best Student of BEET at the Indian Institute of Science (IISC); has one granted and several pending U.S. patents; has authored more than 50 business and professional papers; and serves on several private company and nonprofit organization boards. He holds a doctorate in nuclear engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign; a master of science in nuclear engineering from the University of Cincinnati; a bachelor of science in electrical engineering from the IISC; and a bachelor of science in Physics (Honors) from Delhi University, India.

James H. McLaughlin is the managing director for Convergent Wealth Advisors (formerly Lydian Wealth Management), where he is responsible for senior staff recruitment and development and managing all operational areas for the New York office. Prior to this, Mr. McLaughlin spent 10 years as the regional president of Mellon Private Wealth Management. Before joining Mellon, he was a financial advisor in the Private Client Group at Sanford C. Bernstein & Co., Inc., in New York. Mr. McLaughlin is the Immediate Past President of the Lafayette College Alumni Association and member of the college's Leadership Council, and received the Clifton P. Mayfield '09 Outstanding Young Alumni Award from the school in 1986. He is also a member of the Investment Committee of the American Foundation for the Blind. Mr. McLaughlin holds a master's degree in public administration from Harvard's Kennedy School and a bachelor's degree in history from Lafayette College.

Stuart S. Piltch is the founder and Director of Cambridge Advisory Group, Inc., an actuarial and benefits consulting firm serving major corporate and governmental entities. Prior to founding Cambridge in 1999, Mr. Piltch's career included time spent with the Federal Government, AFL-CIO, MetLife, Buck Consultants and HealthNow (licensee of Blue Cross Blue Shield Association) where he was Chief Operating Officer. He graduated from Hobart College in 1982 with a B.A. in History and American Studies, and now serves on the Board of Trustees for Hobart and William Smith Colleges and the Marine Military Academy.
