Definition and scope: The term vision loss refers to individuals who reported they have serious difficulty seeing even when wearing glasses or contact lenses, as well as those who are blind or unable to see at all.

Data source: 2008 American Community Survey 1-Year Estimates; 2009 American Community Survey 1-Year Estimates; 2010 American Community Survey 1-Year Estimates; 2011 American Community Survey 1-Year Estimates; 2012 American Community Survey 1-Year Estimates. www.census.gov/acs/www/

Comparing American Community Survey 1-year data with other data: Generally, American Community Survey (ACS) 1-year estimates can be compared with other ACS 1-year data. However, since ACS variables change over time, some areas and subjects must be compared with caution, or not compared at all. In this instance, the 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012 ACS 1-year estimates are comparable because the vision loss variable was written the same in the 2008, 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012 ACS instruments.
