AFB Welcomes New Chair and Two New Trustees to its National Board

R J O'Brien Consulting LLC, Grey Healthcare Group, and Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired-Goodwill Industries of Greater Rochester in New York Represented

November 15, 2004 (New York)—The American Foundation for the Blind (AFB) announced the election of a new board chair, Richard O'Brien, president, R J O'Brien Consulting LLC, at its October Board of Trustees meeting. Two distinguished new trustees were also elected: Jane Parker, Group President, Worldwide Advertising, Grey Healthcare Group; and A. Gidget Hopf, president & CEO, Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired-Goodwill Industries of Greater Rochester in New York.

"We're pleased to welcome this well-rounded group of professionals to AFB's board, and I am confident that Richard O'Brien will bring a great deal to the table as our new chair," said Carl R. Augusto, AFB president & CEO. "AFB stands to benefit immensely from their leadership and expertise, as we work to expand the opportunities of blind and visually impaired Americans."

Richard (Dick) O'Brien is president of R J O'Brien Consulting LLC and is also affiliated with Summit Asset Management, a boutique firm that provides financial planning for executives and their families. He retired after 22 years of service as managing director, human resources, The Depository Trust & Clearing Corp, the world's largest organization providing clearance, settlement, and asset custody for virtually all of the world's capital markets. O'Brien's professional career encompassed a complete range of financial service companies, and he has held executive positions at Credit Lyonnais and Mutual of New York. Previously, he served as vice chair of AFB's board of trustees.

Jane Parker is a highly regarded advertising executive with more than twenty years of management expertise building brands and companies. As Group President of Grey Healthcare Group Advertising, Parker has increased the company's visibility and strength in the marketplace by creating brand-building programs and truly understanding her clients and the marketplace. She has successfully marketed and launched numerous products to consumers and professionals domestically and globally, and helped many companies grow their bottom lines. She brings these insight-based skills to her industry and pro bono work, making her a valued addition to client teams, industry boards, and Grey Healthcare Group worldwide.

A. Gidget Hopf is president & CEO of the Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired-Goodwill Industries of Greater Rochester in New York, which provides comprehensive vision rehabilitation services, career development, and training to people who are blind or visually impaired. In addition, ABVI-Goodwill provides employment to people who are blind in manufacturing, food services, retail, and call center occupations. Previously, she was associate executive director of The Arc of Monroe County, a large, multi-funded urban agency that serves adults with developmental disabilities. Currently, Hopf is completing her doctoral dissertation at the George Washington University, where her research interest is leadership and organizational studies.
