Expanding possibilities for people with vision loss

Outreach

The American Foundation for the Blind Center on Vision Loss staff and volunteers raise awareness about vision loss and the availability of educational and rehabilitation resources through a variety of community outreach efforts.

We frequently exhibit at health fairs and disability awareness events throughout the Dallas/Fort Worth metroplex. You may encounter us doing a presentation to:

  • Groups of people at risk for vision loss
  • Seniors in retirement communities
  • Scout troops and youth groups
  • Civic organizations
  • Municipal groups

You may not realize you have someone in your facility or program with vision loss, but most likely you do. Often people do not participate in programs because they are self-conscious or they do not realize they can participate with only a few minor changes to accommodate them. You can help to influence that participation.

The program staff at the AFB Center on Vision Loss has many years of experience in the vision field. This makes us a valuable asset to members of the community. We are available to guide you in making your services, programs and facilities accessible to and usable by people with vision loss. Whether you need to know how to produce your church bulletin in large print or how to make your facility safe and user friendly for people with low or no vision, we can help. Venues with advisory groups where we have provided vision expertise include:

  • American Airlines Center
  • DFW Airport International Terminal D
  • Dallas Cowboys Stadium
  • Love Field Airport
  • Parkland Hospital
  • The Perot Museum of Nature and Science
