Expanding possibilities for people with vision loss

Professionals Serving Seniors

As a professional serving seniors, you are finding out that large numbers of older persons are experiencing age-related vision loss as a result of macular degeneration, cataracts, or other eye conditions.

Vision problems affect every aspect of daily life and cause result in depression and anxiety. Seniors and family members often do not know where to turn for help and or even that resources are available in the form of counseling and rehabilitation services, products for living with vision loss, and tips for everyday living.

AFB offers eLearning courses and webinars for professionals and publications related to aging and vision loss.

You may want to refer older consumers and family members to VisionAware, a website that can help seniors and family members cope. It has a special section "For Seniors" that offers help for dealing with specific issues related to vision and aging including tips sheets on topics such as retirement living, continuing to work, and adapting your bath, kitchen, and other living areas.
