Expanding possibilities for people with vision loss

No Limits Technology

Technology is integral to every aspect of a world with no limits. And accessible technology in devices like smartphones makes such a world possible for people who are blind or visually impaired.

The availability of assistive technology—such as screen readers and braille tablets for people who are blind or screen magni ers for people with low vision—is rapidly expanding. And new technological advances, such as talking pill bottles and apps that use a smartphone's camera to "read" product labels, are breaking down hurdles in the home and workplace.

But much of this technology comes with a high price tag, so there's more work to do. By advocating for equal access and working closely with technology companies to develop accessible and a ordable solutions, we're making sure people who are blind or visually impaired have products that will help them live with no limits.

Recognizing Those Who See No Limits

AFB's Helen Keller Achievement Awards recognize organizations and individuals who have made extraordinary contributions to improving the quality of life of people with vision loss, an essential component of creating a world with no limits.

This year's honorees were celebrated during the award's 21st anniversary gala:

  • Netflix, for its efforts to broaden access by adding video description to movies and television shows on its streaming service
  • Google, for developing more accessible technologies that improve how people with vision loss live, work, and play
  • Architect Chris Downey, AIA, who lost his sight in 2008, for his exemplary leadership in accessible building design
