As a service to our readers, starting with the July 2006 issue of the Journal of Visual Impairment & Blindness (JVIB), PDF files of the print edition of JVIB will be available for free download to subscribers of JVIB Online. In addition, JVIB content is available in three other fully accessible electronic formats: HTML, ASCII, and braille-ready (BRF) files. In the interest of maintaining its ongoing commitment to affording access to readers of AFB Publications, refinement of the PDF version of JVIB will be ongoing in the future.
The PDF files are best viewed with the following operating systems and browsers: Recent versions of Microsoft Windows (including XP, 2000, 2003, NT) and Microsoft Internet Explorer 5.5 (or higher), Netscape 7.1 (or 8.0), Firefox 1.0, or Mozilla 1.7; Apple Macintosh Mac OS X v10.2.8, 10.3, or 10.4, and Safari 1.2.2 browser supported for Mac OS X 10.3 or higher; Red Hat Linux AS 3.0 (2.4.21), 4.0 (2.6); Red Hat Linux ES 3.0 (2.4.21), 4.0 (2.6); Red Hat Linux WS 3.0 (2.4.21), 4.0 (2.6); Red Hat Linux Desktop; Red Hat Linux 9.0 (2.4.20-6); SUSE Enterprise Server 9X (2.6); SUSE Professional 9.2 (2.6.4); or Novell Linux Desktop 9.x (2.6.4).
In addition, readers should use Adobe Reader 7.0.8 for the current versions of Windows, Mac, and Linux operating systems. If you are using older versions of these platforms, you will be prompted to download a newer version of the Adobe Reader. To download a free copy of the current version of Adobe Reader for your operating system, visit: http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html.
Readers using speech will have best results with the current versions of MSAA-supported screen readers: JAWS from Freedom Scientific, SuperNova from Dolphin Computer Access, and Window-Eyes from GW Micro. Readers who wish to access the document with features designed for people with low vision should use Lunar and Lunar Plus from Dolphin Computer Access, MAGic from Freedom Scientific, or Zoomtext 8.13 or newer (ideally, Zoomtext 9.0) from Ai Squared.
