Many individuals with visual impairments (that is, those who are blind or have low vision) are able to travel independently in a variety of environments. Independent travel requires a certain degree of effective problem-solving skills. Successful problem solvers can handle unpredictable situations and do not need to depend on others or require additional orientation and mobility (O&M) instruction each time they face a novel environment.
