Strategies for Enhancing the Business Enterprise Program

Abstract: The Randolph-Sheppard Business Enterprise Program (BEP) was designed to assist persons who are legally blind to become self-supporting, useful members of society by helping them become proud business owners. Legal blindness is 20/200 in the best corrected eye or 20 degrees of vision loss. The BEP is unique in that it is a combination of business enterprise, usually food service oriented, and a vocational rehabilitation program. Thus, its effectiveness is measured by its ability to maximize profits and to generate sustainable employment opportunities for individuals who are legally blind.
