Matching the Needs of Visually Impaired Job Seekers with the Goals of For-profit CompaniesAbstract: Establishing a relationship with a company that hires employees who are visually impaired (that is, those who are blind or have low vision) can have profound and lasting positive results. One such relationship began in November 1990 and, over time, has resulted in at least 37 visually impaired individuals being hired as reservations sales associates. At its highest level, Marriott International';s Worldwide Reservations Center in Santa Ana, California, had 24 employees who were visually impaired. Currently, it has 12 sales associates who perform reservations and sales tasks using audioadaptive equipment and 3 sales associates who use screen-enlargement technology.
