Not yet a subscriber? Here are some options: Research Report: Self-Perceptions of Visually Impaired Children Aged 3–10 in IndiaSince Research Reports do not have abstracts, we have provided an extract of the beginning of the full text. Human behavior is largely a function of individual perception, a combination of learned material and the individual environment (Rosemary, 1976). Perception is the overriding determinant of human behavior. The delusion and ignorance of children with visual impairments (those who are blind or have low vision) are largely a function of societal factors, reflecting family background and interactions with significant others. Preference and decision making are factors that affect and mold an individual';s personality. Children with visual impairments should be given equal opportunities to express their own choices and make decisions, which will help them to build their own identities and thus develop as whole persons (Hurlock, 1978).
