  Ihave never used the Braille Lite, as I am a qwerty keyboard user. However, i have used the Typelite, asn am now using the braille Note QT. I do say that I have found the Braille Note a much better unit. I do enjoy the speech quality, and the sturdiness of the model, the Typelite was quite flimsy. I also love the planner. yes the Braille translator does need work, but PDI hasn't had the time or effort that the Braille Lite has in improving their braille translator, but it does a pretty good job for on the fly down and dirty translating.

  Regarding Deborah Kendrick's article about computer viruses in the May, 2002 issue of AccessWorld, I think it's worth mentioning that some e-mail-borne viruses come packaged with scripts designed to execute the viral code automatically. This is particularly true of the viruses designed to target Microsoft Outlook and Outlook Express. Some versions of Outlook or Outlook Express will literally launch the virus if a user opens the message or even previews it in the preview pane of the mail program. In the past year or so Microsoft has released patches for Outlook and Outlook Express that force the mailers to ask the user if they want a script in an e-mail message to be executed before the script runs. However, if you have not checked the Microsoft Windows Update site for security patches in a long time, your particular mail program may not be protected from these self-running infections. When it comes to viruses, it may not be all bad if your mailer doesn't do everything automatically.

  I use the "legacy" Braille Lite 40. I really appreciate the 40-character display which is long enough to show an entire line of braille book text. I have adjusted my unit's settings so that I can read Library of Congress Web Braille books as if I were reading a hardcopy braille volume. Each line of text shows up complete on the display, and I can see text indentation just as I would in a physical braille volume.
  
  I make heavy use of the Braille Lite's date book, though it does get rather slow as the date book grows in size. I also find the calculator very useful. I have used the alarm clock feature while traveling, and it's handy not having to lug an alarm clock.
  
  The long battery life and comparative compactness, combined with the case durability, make the Braille Lite quite a nice unit as a notetaker without many of the new flashy features.
  
  I have no experience with the Braille Note or newer Freedom Scientific Millennium units, so my experience is rather limited. Of course the best part of continuing to use the Braille Lite 40 is that it's already bought and paid for :-).

  In case a newcomer like me tries to add comments within a script file, it's important to note that, in the example given, a semicolon should have preceeded the second line as well (in front of the word "Control-1). This is, at least, what I gather from the JAWS Basics of Scripting manual.
