Professor Emeritus Natalie C. Barraga Asks, "Have We Deluded Ourselves?"Posted by Web Admin. on 11/9/2004 4:39:20 PM. "Have We Deluded Ourselves?" Asks Dr. Natalie C. BarragaIn the October 2004 Special Issue on Low Vision of the Journal of Visual Impairment & Blindness (JVIB), Dr. Natalie C. Barraga asks the field to consider, "Have we deluded ourselves into thinking that special attention to low vision is no longer needed?" In a Speaker's Corner column entitled, "A Half Century Later: Where Are We? Where Do We Need to Go?" Dr. Barraga discusses the fact that children with low vision in the United States often do not receive low vision assessments for the functional use of their vision and are not taught to use their vision efficiently. Read the article, then join Dr. Barraga by visiting the JVIB message board, www.afb.org/jvib_message_board.asp, to engage the author in an online discussion on these and other topics.
