Has anyone temporarily lost sight and then regained it?

If so, how long did it take and what did you see. My fiance says he see flashes of light and shadows like when he wears a hat he can see the rim of the hat or he can see the tip of his nose but not consistently. Has anyone experienced this. He lost his sight two months ago after being diagnosed with cavernous sinus thrombosis which caused him to have two strokes one on each side of the brain. The opthmologist says that they see damage in his right eye due to the swelling from the cavernous sinus thrombosis, however the left eye he sees no damage and it is perfectly fine. He says we just have to wait.
The Neuro says that the strokes were not in the vision areas of the brain and is referring him to a Neuro Op.
Any advice is helpful. We have been keeping positive but just seeking to understand.

My vision was gone for like 7 to 10 mins. then it came back I started to see peoples shape as if it was the negatives of a camara film, then few minutes later gain full vision... I left the club. today 2/16/11 I went to see a Dr. and I will be getting Blood tested for animic,Sugar and STD. I hope it doesn't happen again... my left eye slightly aches a little...

Posted by cnh6427 on 12/13/2011 at 2:47 PMHi, I was just reading your post and wondered how your fiance is doing now. My mother recently lost sight also and was diagnosed with cavernous sinus thrombosis and AMPPE. Upon being discharged from the hospital, her records indicate that the thrombosis was gone. I don't understand what all this means. She has a tiny bit of residual vision in her left eye, nothing in her right eye. She has no light perception. She can make out some details. Recently she has been having moments of the room becoming very bright and everything appears white. It only lasts for a few seconds but we would like to know what this may mean. Doctors say she has optic nerve pallor. Since your fiance had the same diagnosis as my mom, I was hoping you could help. Thanks.

Posted by PMBlind on 7/12/2012 at 12:40 AMOn December 19, 2003, I lost my vision completely for approximately five to ten minutes when I was working at night. The cause of this was from a Malfunctioning Shunt situation due to a ruptured tubing in my neck area.
Luckily for my training from the School for the blind, I learned to remember my surroundings and not trip on the merchandise trying to find my way to a desk.
I was diagnosed with Hydrocephalus in March 1993 as a side effect to the Congenital Toxoplasmosis.
