Posted by dorothy1436@att.net on 5/16/2008 at 1:00 AMHi,
my name is dorothy and I have a 5 year old who is blind in one eye and has very low vision in his other eye. It has been a rough road since his birth, but there have been many joys also. Every day he teaches me how stubborn he can be and how independant also. I hope that if it ever comes a day that he goes totally without sight I can handle it, but knowing my little boy he will be braver than me.
But sometimes when I am going thru the Dr. proceedures I sometimes think that I am putting him thru so much. I just don't know the answers sometimes and i don't think i ever will.
I wish i had a local support group in our town, Our VI teacher is great and very creative, but I think she thinks i am in denial about my sons condition.
Write back if you want to talk.
Dorothy

Posted by tntechstudent on 4/8/2009 at 9:21 PMI am a new teacher just learning how to best serve students with special needs. I chose to do my research project on elementary students with visual impairments. As parents of kids with visual impairments, is there anything that schools do right or wrong in educating your children? What are some of the biggest challenges of keeping your child in the regular classroom? Have you found any certain devices that really help your child in the classroom? What are your opinions on having a full-time assistant with your child during the school day? Any information you would like to share would be most helpful. As a parent myself, I know that no one knows what works best for my child better than me, so please feel free to share. My email is kapennycuf21@tntech.edu. Thank you.

Posted by smedina on 5/23/2009 at 10:02 PMHello, my name is Shanna. I am the mother of a son who is legally blind. Jordyn just turned five. He is my only child and is extremely hyperactive. By this I mean that he continuously is talking, even to himself, repeating everyone, jumping in place and running about five feet back and forth repeatedly. I have been told that blind children have built up energy because they are unable to run around freely like Children that have full vision capabilities, but I am uncertain that his vision is the problem or if it is something else. He is starting kindergarten this year and they have told me that if he continues to act as he does he will be unable to attend school in the regular population. I desperately need some information from other mothers with visually impaired children to find out what I can do or if you guys are experiencing the same problems. Please contact me I need your help.

Posted by Sahrtex on 3/31/2010 at 3:51 AMMy name is Sahr Lebbie and I am an older brother of a blind child(9years). His only disability is his vision but because of that, there are things that hinder his progress in leaning daily life movements. I am 24 and just graduated from college and would be leaving the house soon to attend grad school and then hopefully start my life after that. I want to help him as much as I can before I move out. I know I will always have to help him out from time to time but I just want him to learn the basics so he can be self-sufficient by the time he is in his late teens. I guess what I am asking for is advice and counseling if possible. (toy suggestions, events, games, groups, etc...anything that will help further him) My email is Sahrtex23@gmail.com. Feel free to email me anytime, Thanks and God Bless.

Posted by laura2010 on 4/27/2010 at 2:20 PMHi...Today after five years of waiting for a diagnosis...I finally got one...I am 34 and a mother to 4 children..In my last pregnancy, in 2005 I became visually impaired, I went for test after test and to Moorfields in London, but no consultant could find the answer..Thankfully, my vision didnt deteriorate any further..Until this year I started experiencing more flashing lights and a little more impairment..Today I went to the hospital and have been told I have an incomplete PVD and Azoor...If there is anyone out there who has had these experiences I would be so pleased to hear from you...And if anyone knows of the likely prognosis would gladly hear from you to..Sight is something I took for granted, much like other people; until now....please email laurayoulden@yahoo.com

Posted by Volleyball on 12/29/2012 at 8:31 PMHello,
My 2.5 year old daughter has cortical visual impairment along with multiple developmental and physical disabilities, and no speech. I am wondering if there are any families out there that have a child with CVI that can give me some insight on what to expect or what their children's quality of life is. For example, is s/he in a special school, can he/she read, write... what his/her abilities are etc. I'm am in such a dark place right now and I need something to hold on to. If you are dealing with CVI, let's connect.
