rudest thing?

just out of curiousity, what's the rudest thing anyone has ever done in response to your vision loss?

Re:rudest thing?

People have taken my cane away from me and pushed me in to walls.

Re:rudest thing?

People have made me smash into fences by giving me inaccurate directions just to laugh and they have placed chairs in my way to see if i'd trip.

Re:rudest thing?

Hi, I'm new here. I'm 14 and still have most of my vision. I have Stargardts. The rudest thing anybody's done to me is ask me "how does your book smell?" when I was reading on the bus. I've had a few people ask me if I forgot my glasses, or "What are you, blind?" but for the most part people are pretty nice.

Re:rudest thing?

Hello, My name is Sarah. I'm 16. I'm blind in one eye, and have 20/400 vission in the other eye. People like to cuss me out, take away my cane, jump over my cane, and they pretend thy'6r blind and purposely run in to walls to make fun of me. They also push me in to walls.

Re:rudest thing?

one day when i was eating olives a woman told me i only ate them because i couldn't see how grose they looked.

Re:rudest thing?

Wow, i would've told her what the heck is it to her and that if she didn't like what I was eating for her not to look at you. Sorry I have an attitude problem haha. I just hate when people say things like: "How do you watch a movie if you can't see them? Don't you hear the movie?" That's dumb.

Re:rudest thing?

I hate when people do that. Whenever someone does that to me, I get irritated and when I'm done talking to them, I cuss to myself.

Re:rudest thing?

yeah the woman who said the thing about the olives really made me mad. and i hardly get offended by anything. because usually if people are joking it doesn't bother me. but she wasn't. i wanted to say something but she was our national leadership consultant for our sorority. so i wrote a letter to nationals and complained then she sent me an apology. she also said very offensive things to my friends who are not blind. one of them is black and she asked if the girl went tanning and she said this person she knew was about as asian as obama was black. and she said this in front of the black girl. and after she met one of my guy friends the first thing she asked us was if he was "a mo" so in short she was very rude and some people are just dumb.

Re:rudest thing?

Yeah, I hardly ever get offended. I do get offended when people get mad at me for playing a joke. I played a joke on April Fool's Day, and people got offended and took it personal, and my feeling were hurt.

Re:rudest thing?

A kid threw shoes at me a couple of times in high school. A person whom I used to think of as a friend knew who did it, but refused to tell me.

What is wrong with people!?

Re:rudest thing?

Let me tell you about my 2 worst experiences of people being rude to me. And these 2 experiences were done by the same person. My ex-best friend, well at least I thought she was my friend, decided to tie me to the fence. She tied me to the fence and left me there for at least 30 minutes. Then, another time she was walking me home from school, and she had her friends throw rmcks at me. She threw rocks at me, then told me to find my own way home after cussing me out. It was horrible. And she gets me in trouble all the time.

Re:rudest thing?

Usually people are nice to me accept some they play tricks on me. Sometimes people will put things in front of me to see if I will trip or hear it in time.

That sucks about your X best friend I don't no why people are mean to blind people we're human aren't we?

Re:rudest thing?

Peope can be so stupid sometimes. It is so dumb. People run from because of my cane. I can't wait until I get my guide dog.

Sarah

Re:rudest thing?

I was given the option of using a cane in middle school. I refused because I knew it would get me into trouble. Kids made fun of me all the time and that cane would've become a weapon, if you know what I mean.

Re:rudest thing?

I use my cane as a weapon all the time. lol

Sarah

Re:rudest thing?

Wow you guys have some harsh stories, i've had people put stuff in front of me like chairs to see if i'd trip and i had this one classmate tell me that if he were blind he'd just shoot himself. How retarded!

Re:rudest thing?

That is retarded. Being blind is no reason to shoot yourself.

Re:rudest thing?

I've had people tell me that they want to be blind. I can't emagin what would make someone say that.

Re:rudest thing?

That is so retarded! Why would anyone want to be blind? I have people tell me that they would rather be paralyzed than blind. That is so dumb.

Re:rudest thing?

Anyone who says they'd rather be paralyzed is clearly ignorant. I can understand wanting to be temporarily blind...for a sighted person it could be interesting to learn how to utilize other senses and not just rely on your vision.

Re:rudest thing?

I agree with you.

Sarah

Re:rudest thing?

Blindness is nothing to be ashamed of. Sure, there's stuff we can't do, but we aren't freaks from Mars or something. Yeah, sometimes it sucks, but it's not all bad. Would I want to be blind if I wasn't already? It'd be cool for the sake of awareness.

Re:rudest thing?

My best friend gets mad when people insult the blind and she even says that she'd rather be blind than anything else but of course, no one really knows what it's like until they are in our shoes. but yes, we are not freaks and from another planet.

Re:rudest thing?

People sure do treat me like a freak from another planet.

Re:rudest thing?

I have a hard time imagining good eyesight, what it's like.

I have a harder time understanding why people suck so much. I spent half of my life being bullied because of my eyesight. Different students every year, every school day. So much evil.

Re:rudest thing?

Yep. Going to school is what causes my depression.

Re:rudest thing?

Wow you guys had it rough, i never really did. i was one of the kids whom people liked, especially junior and senior year, plus i had my friends and my older brother to back me up if things got rough. My favorite years were high school because they were the easiest, i had a little more trouble in middle school but no one really picked on me or taunted me. I would've kicked some butt.

Re:rudest thing?

When someone hits me, and I defend myself, I'm always the one who gets in trouble.

Re:rudest thing?

I never got hit before, wow that's rough.

Re:rudest thing?

Not only did I get hit, I got kicked too. And I had rocks thrown at me.

Re:rudest thing?

"When someone hits me, and I defend myself, I'm always the one who gets in trouble." - Thrill Seeker

I've had that happen. One time I got detention for that. The teacher didn't like my attitude about it.

Re:rudest thing?

I hate teachers these days.

Re:rudest thing?

Yes, they need to pay attemtion once in a while to their students.

Think about it. We're all taught several times about drugs and we have to take a special course on sex. They need to put this kind of importance on discussing the evils of bullying.

Zero tolerence!

Re:rudest thing?

i have never been in a physical fight but every one says that no matter if i started it or not i would probably win because i am blind. they think that if i loose the fight the other person would look really bad for beating up the blind girl. and if i win they would say to the other person wow you got beat up by a blind girl. and they think it wouldn't matter who started it. but elementary school was really hard for me. i had people call me names and throw things at me. and one time a boy shot staples at me out of a stapler and i almost got suspended because the teachers thought i was lieing just to get attention. it was really stupid. i have never had any one put things in my way though. and luckally the teasing stopped after about fifth grade and i had no more problems with it after that. and i am usually known as "the blind girl" and it is really annoying. and people i have never met will come and start talking to me like i know them. and when i do something completly normal that they can do for some reason they thing i am so amazing because i can still do things sighted people can do. and i hate it when people come up to me and just say "who am i" it really bugs me because usually i don't remember them and i have to look stupid for not knowing them and then they can get offended. so then i usually walk away. and one time in a restraunt when i was eating breakfast on mothers day with my family an old woman started ttalking to my step dad when i was sitting right in front of him. and she was asking him about my blindness and stuff like i wasn't even there. first of all i don't mind if people ask questions but she did not ask me and it was a very inappropriate time and it really annoyed me. and she said she would pray for me. i don't feel that i need to be prayed for at all. so in short people are just stupid.

Re:rudest thing?

The worst thing is when people think that I am amazing just because I say that I can do things sight people can do, such as watch tv. Usually people treat me like a baby because I'm blind. People act like they have never seen a blind person before.

Re:rudest thing?

Sometimes I'm talked to as if I'm a small child. I don't mind it too much, but I don't know why they do it.

I can ride a bike, watch TV and probably kick someone's butt in a fight. Doesn't really make me "amazing".

Re:rudest thing?

I can't ride a bike, but I can bungee jump.

Re:rudest thing?

I just found out that I'm not getting a guide dog anymore because of my depression.

Re:rudest thing?

Wow wow and more wow. This topic is intense.
First of all, i get the talking in third person thing, people talk about me as if i'm not there, come up and suggest doctors and treatments as if i'd never been and as if all blindness is due to the same factors.
I've gotten talked too like a small child by a professor at my university whom I wanted to smack.
Ever since being in a uni, one girl who was very competitive about grades told me I only got good ones because teachers felt sorry for me.
I cannot ride a bike or jump rope and i have no clue why, once the training wheels came off it was all over lol.
Sarah, i'm sorry about you not being able to get a gide dog. I hope you are doing well.

Re:rudest thing?

I'm doing great. I'm supposed to go to Magic Mountain tomorrow!

Re:rudest thing?

I can't ride a bike!!

Re:rudest thing?

I went to Six Flags yesterday and had an awesome time! I can't ride a bike either.

Re:rudest thing?

Has anyone chalinged you all to a fight? People have chalinged me and the sad thing is I usually beat them.

Re:rudest thing?

I have never been challenged to a fight.

Re:rudest thing?

NO one has seriously challenged me except for my brothers when we were young and it was 50 50 on who won or lost.

Re:rudest thing?

I have never even been in a play fight.

Re:rudest thing?

I wish someone would chalange me to a fight cause I know I could kick some maaaaaaaaajjjjjjor butt. Anyway, I remember one time in 5th grade. This random guy I didn't even know came up to me and hit me in the back of the head. I turned around and gave him an uperjaw so fast he didn't know what was coming. And the teachers saw him and they expelled him I think. But if someone tried to hit me or fight me, my instinks are so fast. You can hit me and with in a half second, i'll be hitting you back. I learned how to defend myself from my dad.

Re:rudest thing?

Seriously am i the only one who never get harassed or picked on because you all have some major horror stories and I just don't experience things like you all.

Re:rudest thing?

Have any of your friends ever try to pretend to be someone else and trick you?

Re:rudest thing?

not my friends.

Re:rudest thing?

But anybody?

Re:rudest thing?

Oh yeah and i think it's stupid.

Re:rudest thing?

Has anyone ever called your cane a stick?

Re:rudest thing?

Oh yes all the time, i just correct them because they don't know the proper name.

Re:rudest thing?

One time, My vision teacher asked me if I had found a stick for brantch weeving yet. So, I hold up my cane, and say, "This is a stick."

Re:rudest thing?

You pick on your teachers a lot.
