Expanding possibilities for people with vision loss

!

I am so excited. I have never been able to read a menu and someone always had to read it off for me. Tonight we went out to dinner and I had felt the menu to figure out the shape and stuff and the hostess noticed it. She asked me if I read braille, I said yes, and she said let me get you a braille version of the menu. I think it might have made my day! I also got a list of restaurants that carry these menus I cant wait to try more out. Also, my talking watch was fixed finally. I really missed knowing the time in school when I didnt have it lol

I know that feeling.

Hey everyone

about the menues.
Yes, I found a few restaurants that have braille menues. It was awesome! But, it takes me a little longer to read braille, I wasn't really taught to read braille with both hands, which I found out just a few months ago was the propper way, so I didn't read so quickly, so I just ended up asking my parents what was good on there. LOL.

About the time and all that: I used a braille watch before, but I believe I will mostly use my Ipod for time and date and all that.

About the school. *sighs* I don't have many friends there either. As I said in another thread, I am more of a technology person, and mostly all of the people there are sports people. I don't have a girlfriend, so don't feel left out with the love thing.

I use neither. I find that doing my alternatives work out better. I just holler at those waiters and tell them to come yonder so I could ask them about the choices on the menus. I don't find that inconvenient, it's actually pretty darn quick, quicker than I read the damn thing by hand.

I also don't use a watch. both types flunked my reliable test. All my talking and braille watches has broke on me or for talking watch ran out of batteries too quickly. So, I just use the one on my Braillenote or my desktop. Easy and no extra money for anything. You could just easily check time and date on your computer by the insert f12 keys quickly, and twice will give you the date.

My school is pure hell! I'm not allowed to go on the internet, I have no friends, and I'm extremely depressed and bored.

Re:!

I bring a laptop to school everyday and always have access to the internet so it works for me

Re:!

wow!!! at least you have access to your email
well i do but i am just don't have time because of work and i am usually hanging out with my friends and boyfriend

Our school is a strict academic school and they believe that from 7:30-2:30 your focus needs to be on academics and not your social life. I can email during the day though because I do research and I have to email my mentor

Re:!

that's cool that it talks!!!!
man there policy is stricter than ours

Re:!

hey,
I do have a cell phone that talks but it is not useful when I am in school because they have a strict no cell phone policy. If they see it or hear it your parent has to come to the dean to pick it up at the end of the day.

they didn't make any mistakes but there is a company it gets sent out to to get brailled and they are really professional. I looked it up and they do alot of chains and stuff
