Posted by Thrill Monster on 9/14/2010 at 4:22 PMI've never had cataract surgery, but it can lead to retina detatchment. I heard that it does every time.

I have not had cataract surgery, but I know many persons who have had it. I have also watched videos of the surgery being done.
Cataract surgery can lead to retinal detachment, anytime you do work on the eye, you open up that possibility. But, I know tons of people who have had cataract surgery and not had a detached retina. Talk to your doctor and explain your concern.
It has happened, but it definitely doesn't happen everytime. I have family members, friends, and more who could confirm this statement.
It has become a very common surgery. It actually is all pretty cool (the fact that they can do it and do it so well).
Hope this calms your nerves a bit.

Re:cataract surgery
Posted by msk5 on 9/14/2010 at 6:49 PMthanks! i have to meet the surgeon on friday and talk about it and schedule it, my worry is my main problem with my eyes is retina detachment (ROP) and ive had 7 surgeries to reattach my retina already. I dont want to get into a never ending cycle of surgeries, im very sick of surgeries. and i have a oil bubble in my eye right now holding the retna in place but theres a hole and my doctor wasnt gonna do anything until it leaked bc i have no vision in this eye anyway, so both my mom and i are worried about the bubble and it leaking and needed more retina surgery.. its just a messy eye lol

Posted by Joe S on 9/14/2010 at 7:57 PMI totally understand the worry, worrying can be good because you will be cautious, weigh your options, discuss the options with professionals, and do what will be best for you. The fact that you have already had 7 surgeries to reattach your retinas due to your ROP gives you a reason to be worry. But, I think we all worry at these types of situations, natural! Either way, you will be fine. I could understand how you don't want to have to go through the whole process again. I can not imagine how hard it has been, but you seem to have navigated and in a positive manner. I think, no matter what, you will be great! I am sure the doctor will be honest with you. Let us know when you are having it and we will send positive thoughts and vibes your way for whatever result you would like.
The response above were persons with other eye conditions besides ROP. Life is short, don't stress it, it will be what it will be. You will overcome!
Keep rockin'!

Posted by Thrill Monster on 9/17/2010 at 4:40 PMWouldn't it be cool if you got the surgery and after, you were fully sighted?
