Expanding possibilities for people with vision loss

i need any information &-or help i can get

heres the short version. over the last few months i have been having really aufull eye pain, and a month ago a cataract sudenly formed. the pain has been getting worse and worse and now not even hydrocodine lessens it. the best i can hope 4 is 2 sleep, which the hydros do. but naturally, i cant sleep all the time. on friday, the doctors finally decided 2 do an mri, and they found something. i dont have all of the information at my fingertips but here is what i know. my retina, &-or choroid are detatching. my eye condition has nothing 2 do with the retina, its my optic nurve thats messed up. anyways, a doctor three hours away made room in his schedule 4 6 tomorow morning, hes a well known and busy doc, so it must b serious. could i lose my eye? im also wondering wat kinds of prosedures they can do and the risks envolved with them. sorry 4 the length of my coment.

It gives you other opportunities to spell it or another word.

Re:i need any information &-or help i can get

heres an update, yesterday i went 2 the hoyty toyty doctor who took an ultrasound of my eye. he said that my cataract is breaking my lenz open and leaking protine in 2 my eye, and that my retina has somehow completely 100 percent detatched itself from my eye. im going in 2 a serious and complicated surgery in about a week. the doctor told me that at this point the best he can do is try and save my eye, and that may not b posible. i have never been so scared in my life, the pain in my eye is so overwhelming that iv been taken out of school, and stay at home trying 2 live all day. u guys r so nice 2 b trying 2 help, thanks guys.

I always get nervous when going to a doctor.

Re:i need any information &-or help i can get

Alana,

It sounds like you are doing the best that you can do. Be prepared to ask questions, often we are intimidated by doctors and their vocabulary. Don't be afraid to ask them to explain things and take notes if possible. Or, ask someone to right down the terms that you are unsure of or are important.

I know that everyone on here will be rooting for you and thinking about you. You seem to be handling this all very well. If you want, you could write down a list of questions or concerns to ask the doctors or persons in their office, so you don't forget anything.

Have your parent(s) or guardian(s) seen FamilyConnect.org? It is a combined effor from AFB and NAPVI (National Association of Parents with Children with Visual Impairments). There are a number of parents from around the country who use that site and there are a bunch of message boards aimed at parents. Parents supports each other and offer advice and such. Just something that your parents may appreciate.

Let us know if you need anything!

Thank you for sharing!

Sincerely,
Joe S.
